Frequently asked questions
Everything you wanted to know about Freeyo, the little family website that lists only free things to do.
What is Freeyo?
A website that lists only free things to do near you, like festivals, parks, pools, classes and concerts, on a map. It's also where you can post your own free activities, like juggling in the park.
Is it really all free?
Yes. If it costs money, it doesn't go on Freeyo. When something is free only for some people, like kids or on certain days, the listing says so.
Who's behind Freeyo?
Just Diego and Gabrielle, a husband and wife team from Saint-Bruno. We're a tiny family business, not a big company.
Who is Diego?
An artisan and dad of three who has brought handmade espadrilles from Spain for twenty years through his company Diegos (diegos.com), and who teaches espadrille making at universities.
Why did you build Freeyo?
We kept finding wonderful free events by pure luck, a party for kids in a park or a festival in the Old Port. Online, it was frustrating: paid events have money to advertise, so they always show up first, and free things are almost impossible to find. With everything getting more expensive, too many people stay home because going out costs too much. So we built one place for free things only.
Does it cost anything to post?
No. Posting a free activity is free, and it always will be. Later we may offer optional extras, like a highlighted spot on the home page, but you'll never have to pay to post.
What can I post?
Anything free: a ballet class in the park, juggling, an art show, free tastings in your shop, a Scrabble night, a free language chat, street music, a story time, a free yoga session or a garden open to visitors.
Do I need an account to look around?
No. Just open the site and explore.
How do you check listings?
We read every post before it goes live, and we check our own listings against official sources.
Can I save my favourites?
Yes. Tap the heart, and your favourites stay saved on your phone.
Which cities do you cover?
We started in Montreal and now cover cities across Canada and beyond. Your city is picked automatically, and you can change it at the top of the page.
Is there a Freeyo app?
Not in the app stores yet, but you can add Freeyo to your phone's home screen. When a small window pops up, tap to add it, and Freeyo opens just like an app.
How does Freeyo make money?
Right now it doesn't. Later, local businesses may pay for optional extras that make their free offers stand out. Finding free things will always be free.
I found a mistake. What do I do?
Email hello@freeyo.org and we'll fix it quickly.
How can I help?
Share Freeyo with your friends, and post the free things you know about. And if you'd like to support our little family business in a fun way, have a look at diegos.com. If a pair of handmade espadrilles from Spain catches your eye, you'll be helping keep Freeyo free!
Got something free to share?
Post it on Freeyo in a few minutes. It's free, yo!
